Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Item upgrading allows players to upgrade their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing its base stats or providing additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Upgrade components

There are three types: universal upgrades (which include gems) prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, such as gems, can be put on any type of equipment.
